Get the best performance from your award-winning SM7B microphone by adding a Cloudlifter. What is a Cloudlifter you ask and why do I need this? The SM7B has a low output which requires a high gain preamp of some kind. If you have a professional high-quality preamp you might not need one actually.
However; with most low-cost audio interfaces, you’ll need a way to boost the signal easily and without adding coloration or noise. The Cloudlifter CL-1 does just that. Using a Cloudlifter to boost the signal of your SM7B is the easiest and cleanest way to quickly boost your signal and get that “hot mic” sound from your recording or podcast setup.
Keep in mind you can use the Cloudlifter on any of your other dynamic microphones like your SM58! It will make your mic sound much hotter into the board/interface and just sound better and cleaner.
The Cloudlifter works by converting 48v phantom power into a signal boost right there at your microphone. Many users will actually mount the Cloudlifter inline right on the mic stand with a velcro strap. You can run the Cloudlifter behind your board or interface but it’s best to run it as close to the mic as possible to get the cleanest signal and best results.
